Converse is Looking for Interns

Converse is a well known footwear brand synonymous with cool, hip, classic, and they are now looking for interns for the Fall of 2011. This could be the perfect opportunity to hone your public relations and marketing skills and travel to New York City to work in media relations, press events, and much more. Converse requires interns to work a minimum of 3 days a week from 9 am to 6 pm, but you need to have the appropriate experience for the job.

You will only be awarded credit compensation, but although this is not a paying job, it will still give you an amazing chance to work with one of the most famous brands in the world. The internship will involve performing the following duties:

  • You will help give out samples of the footwear and clothing for all requests including broadcast, editorial, and celebrities, which also means creating sample forms to keep track of inventory, packing samples and bringing them to the mailroom, checking returned samples and restocking them.
  • Help to organize and maintain the PR samples closet by making sure that everything is displayed neatly and correctly for the current season and archiving old products.
  • You will checking any media sources for editorial coverage and save clips of any press piece pertaining to the company. This will include archiving as well.
  • Help with product orders, mailings, and gifts, including the lookbook that is distributed each season, as well as giveaways, and product orders.
  • Updating and maintaining editor and media databases with current contacts for collections.
    Assist at special press events and previews.
  • General admin duties including press kit production, photo copying, mailings, organization, expenses and mail distribution, and distributing magazines.

 

Candidates need to have experience in the fashion industry, working in PR, as well as editorial and magazine experience. They are also asked to have Photoshop experience and should be familiar with File Maker Pro. 

There are plenty of other internships like this one offered for the Fall season and into the Winter where you can learn more about the industry of your choice easily and either for academic credits or for a salary. Many internship programs have started offering payment, but you will have to decide what is best for you and whether you need those credits or not. Some do offer credits as well as a small remuneration which is always preferred to pay for transportation costs and such.
